In this guide, we explain how ranked matches work, including explaining how the ranking system works and how you can attain its various player ranks. Reaching trainer level 6 is easy enough, and should take you an hour or so at absolute most. To reach trainer level 6, head to the standard mode and engage in battles with random players there.
Playing matches successfully gives you positive Fair Play Points. Once you hit the Ranked Match system, there are two elements of the ranking system you need to know about and understand: Ranks and Classes. Your progression will only be counted within each season, and the exact rewards might vary from one season to the next. In this case, a player could be demoted to the division below them, unless they can win some matches again.
This number is different from your actual ranking. Riot uses it as a way to determine how much LP you should gain or lose. Winning game after game can cause your MMR to rise while losing several games in a row can cause your MMR to decrease rapidly, affecting the amount of LP you can get per match.
You can also lose LP by being inactive for a long period of time. This only happens to players in Platinum rank and above, however. If you leave games continuously, you could be banned from future games for a certain period of time or indefinitely depending on how often you dodge or quit a game before its resolution.
With this new mode comes a new way to pit your skills against other players. You just need to finish 20 matches and this new mode becomes available to you automatically. Once you get this new banner in your main menu, you need to complete five placement matches to get your first official rank.
While high performance helps, you really want to focus on winning your matches because it can help you rise through the ranks faster. In it, players can pit themselves against other players in a 5vs5 FPS battle for top rankings. To unlock this new system, players need to complete 20 matches in standard mode and then another 5 preplacement matches to receive their first rank.
Each level or rank has three tiers to work through before reaching the next level. After that, you go onto Bronze I. The exception to that rule is the final or top tier, Valorant, which has only one tier. Valorant is a 5vs. So, you can have up to four additional players in your party for a total number of five per match.
Your first rank is awarded to you after completing the five requisite placement matches. Platinum I. Platinum II. Platinum III. Diamond I. Diamond II. Diamond III. Immortal I. Immortal II. Immortal III. You can then reach the final rank: Valorant. These tiers all have associated badges so you can quickly identify player level and skill.
Unsurprisingly they get fancier the higher you place. As you progress through the tiers your individual skill will be used less by the algorithm, eventually leaving you with wins and losses as your only metric of rank. Your rank will determine who you will be matched against, and you can only party up with people within six tiers of your own position. Be aware that if you do not play Valorant for fourteen days, your rank will become hidden until you play a ranked match again.
This will not affect your tiers or any progression in the ranked ladder, it just will not be visible to other people. Currently there are no rewards based on rank, other than the badge that is visible on your profile and can be deployed for bragging rights. Ranked mode plays the exact same as the normal unranked mode.
