But the things it created were so brilliant and popular, they became woven into the fabric of that show's genre. They ended up being taken for granted, copied and endlessly repeated.
Although they often began by saying something new, they in turn became the new status quo. It's basically the inverse of a Grandfather Clause taken to a trope level: rather than being able to get away with something that is seen as overdone or out of style simply because it was the one that started it, people will unfairly disregard it because it got lost amidst its sea of imitations even though it paved the way for all those imitators.
There may be good reason for this. Whoever is first to do something isn't likely to be the best at it, simply because everyone that comes after is building on their predecessors' work. Named after Seinfeld , which many people won't watch any more because everything about it has been copied. The classic sitcom just dropped on Netflix, forcing us to consider what was really going on.
Seinfeld is still one of the most beloved sitcoms of all time, to the point that Netflix spent millions of dollars for the rights to stream the entire series, even doing an aggressive marketing campaign to tell people where to find Jerry, George, Elaine, and Kramer on their Rokus and Fire Sticks. The show is, once again, out for the first time now. Seinfeld has endured despite being very dated with its numerous era-appropriate references and idiosyncratic, highly personal storytelling.
Jerry the observer, the righteous anger of George, status obsessed social climbing Elaine and the chaos of Kramer. The Id doing whatever it wants. I think everybody struggles with those four feelings and bringing them together is how you create a human being. But there is one character we have not talked about. Maybe the most important character on Seinfeld , the city of New York. I think 30 Rock followed that tradition. New York is a character on 30 Rock. Jonah: Where else are you going to have a storyline that involves a subway hero?
Larry David bases a lot of script ideas on upon people who really are in his life. He creates inspired comedy from real events. Between these molds is what cloth the show is made of.
Luck of the draw put the right 4 people together to do this. This kind of chemistry really shows as none have been as successful alone since the program went off. That is the only reason the show will lose it's value down the road.
The part that will always be funny is the personal comedy. One classic line Jerry has is at the airport rental car counter.
Like a Grant Wood painting of Americana, the brush strokes of this series are a slice of Americana, tempered with absurdity. Seinfeld is a hard TV show to rate.
The show about nothing was a constant winner for NBC for over eight years and dominated the prime time ratings because of outstanding writing and quite possibly the greatest core of actors to ever star together on a television program. Jerry Seinfeld, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jason Alexander, and Michael Richards became household names and it is impossible to think of one of them without thinking of the other three. The chemistry between the performers and the quirky direction of the series kept the series fresh and hilarious throughout its television run.
The setting of New York City was ingenious as it makes everything seem plausible and realistic. Amazing insight from writers and directors of the series was truly uncanny, especially in this day and age of stale ideas. An unbelievable television accomplishment from any view one chooses to take. I've had a bad illness for a few months. That's why I couldn't go to the office.. I was doing my job at home. At the same time, I was very depressed. Yesterday I learned that I will get better.
This is very good news. I watched this series in the last 6 months when I was sick and it made me very happy. It was funny and entertaining. I liked it very much. This is my favorite TV show of all time, as it's the best in my opinion, with so many fabulous characters and classic episodes!. This show is almost as popular as it was back then, as they are playing it still on many channels here in Canada, and my favorite character has to be Jerry weird I know , however Kramer, Elaine, and George are all brilliant, as they always had brilliant chemistry together!.
Larry David is an absolute genius, and it has so many classic episodes that I don't really have a favorite, plus while all the Seasons are different from each other there all wonderful!. This really didn't get extremely popular until the 4th season, and I must say the Seinfeld DVD sets are well worth the cash! Let's take a look at the characters!.
Jerry Seinfeld. Surprisingly enough he's my favorite character, I just love his type of humor and stand up routines, and his facial expressions were often priceless, it's also amusing when his character got annoyed, and he had so many classic scenes with George and Elaine especially, he is one of the main reasons this show really took off and became as big of a hit as it is today!. George Costanza. Jason Alexander. Jason has played one of the most pathetic, foolish, ignorant characters ever, however the way Larry David created him was just brilliant, the character will make you laugh non stop, however sometimes you may have the urge to slap him for being so stupid, I always laughed in the episode where he tells his GF he loves her twice, because he thought she couldn't hear her, a wonderful character indeed!.
Cosmo Kramer. Michael Richards. This is one of the funniest characters in history, he's just got a certain sense of humor you just can't help but love, I love his facial reactions as they always crack me up, and he always has great dialog, and created a lot of very memorable moments on Seinfeld. His door entrances are always different and unique as well, and without him Seinfled wouldn't be as big as it is today!.
Elaine Benes. Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Larry David created another brilliant character here, one that is very sexy, feisty and absolutely hilarious, I just love the way she does things, she had many classic moments with Jerry, and one of my favorite scenes with her is when she thinks she has become George, that was just a hoot!. She's always wonderfully perky and like the rest created so many classic moments on Seinfled!.
Wayne Knight. This is an utterly despicable character but a very good and important one, as it's always funny when you hear "Hello Newman" and then "Hello Jerry", and he will test your nerves at times but as I said his character is very important and is a guy you love to hate!. All the rest of the crew are fabulous as well, Jerry's parents, George's parents, Mr Peterman, George Steinbrenner and all the rest are fantastic.
Overall if you have never seen this show, please do so immediately, I really hope you enjoy it as It's my favorite TV show of all time!. John6Daniels 25 November This show is good because it doesn't take its self too seriously on dark, tragic subjects. Its a good show to unwind to after long day at work.
However I find seasons 1 to 5 some of 6 the best. Many of it was fast paced and not to my liken. The characters are legends. Elaine however best days were from season 1 to 5. After that and the hair change she became like a type women.
Loud, entitled and annoying. George was entitled too but he did it better. Here are five of them. Particularly in its best episodes, Seinfeld blew all of that up. The best Seinfeld episodes are marvels of story structure, with jokes and storylines dovetailing and tucking into each other in ways that can be as thrilling as any twist in a plot-heavy drama.
This approach has become incredibly common since Seinfeld left the air. Not every show uses the Seinfeld structure and some, like Everybody Loves Raymond , have used structures that were deliberately as little like Seinfeld as possible , but the series gave other shows the option of pursuing far more than the typical two stories per episode. Matt Zoller Seitz made this point ably over at Vulture in while much of the credit for the age of antiheroes often gets placed at the feet of The Sopranos , Seinfeld was just as much of an influence.
Writes Seitz:. We tend to forget that the first coldly expedient hero to anchor an influential, long-running series named after him wasn't Tony Soprano. It was Jerry Seinfeld. Yet look beyond just Jerry, and you see that Seinfeld is full of the sorts of self-involved jerks who went on to drive many of the best TV shows of the years that followed.
Seinfeld is perhaps the earliest series to essentially dare the audience to identify with its characters by seeing their own worst traits reflected in them. It believed it could do this simply by crafting characters who were as interesting and funny as possible. It was mostly right. We empathize with George because we recognize in his character all of the times we've been unable to escape our own limitations and weaknesses.
He doesn't particularly want to strive to succeed. He just wants life handed to him on a silver platter. Funny women in control of their own destinies existed on television before Elaine, but Elaine was the first one who was simply allowed to unapologetically be whatever she wanted to be.
